I have the same problem with crying (as you well know) - I don't like making a spectacle of myself, and drawing attention away from something that isn't about me. On the other hand, memorial services are really more about the living and figuring out how we go on without that person in our lives, so I don't think you would have been looked down upon for getting emotional.

I had myself a good cry when I got home the day she was taken off life support. I didn't know her well, but the hole she left was huge.
