I just had my vacation time off approved for the week between Christmas and New Years. Jean is off the same time because her company shuts down that week anyways. As such, we are discussing the possibilities of taking a fairly substantial vacation.

So far we have discussed taking a train to Chicago, a train to Seattle, a trip to Napa or Sonoma, or a trip to Dublin, Ireland. So far we have entirely discounted only the trip to Chicago because I don’t want to only see white on my trip (the north route train ride is spectacularly beautiful in the spring, fall, and even summer months, but winter would prove to be fairly dull). Of all the possibilities thus far, each choice is roughly going to cost the same.

If we go the Dublin route, I will have to send a message to my counter-parts in the Dublin office to see what the good hotels are and if anything will even be open during that week. It could be that the week between Christmas and New Years is the worst time in the world to visit the city. Mind you, we have done traveled to Monterey, Ca. around the same time of year and LOVED how quiet everything was. Quiet and closed, however, are two very different things.

Of course, I am sure we’ll come up with even more ideas as time passes. But we do need to book the trip soon to get the best rates. Hmmm, what to do....

Go to England...preferably a little town called Newbury and stay in a bungalow and take care of a cat named CoCo and a dog named Chutney (Ant's mother needs someone to watch the place while she is HERE over the holidays) LOL

Dublin sounds fun :) Ant and I are getting ready to settle our 2 week vacation to England in April/May...I love traveling abroad :)

I THINK we'll love traveling abroad, but I am not sure as we have never done it before. In fact this year will be the first since we have been married that an oversees vacation is even a remote possibility.

As it stands, I don't think cat and dog sitting will make it onto our itinerary. Sorry ;)

Ah well I tried :)

I am trying to convince Ant that once we are in England we should take a trip over to Italy because it is so cheap to leave from London and go anywhere in Europe...jury is still out on that idea but if I get my way *evil grin*

I realize my vote means nothing BUT I pick Dublin :)

In theory, I pick Dublin too :)
BUT, I have travelled within the US before and am comfortable and familiar enough to handle myself well if things go awry. I do not have the same level of comfort traveling abroad, though I know I only need to do it once to overcome my hesitancy.

I will also echo your vote and plunk one down for jaunting over to Italy for a spell. You really CAN'T beat the prices for travel within Europe once you are there.
