Truly nothing is better than relaxing and warming up in the jacuzzi during a torrential down-pour. I LOVE soaking in the spa during a good rain... there's just something utterly and completely calming about it. Much like a lounging on the couch with a hot drink and a fire listening to the crackle of the logs in the fireplace and the pounding of the storm outside. So after a good soak tonight, my mind is clear and my body relaxed for a good night's slumber.

But first a bit of a brain dump from the day and beyond:

At some point today I realized exactly how messed up my new old company really is. Mind you, I knew this all before agreeing to return to it, but none-the-less, it wasn't readily apparent and in my face until about 3pm today.

You see, my company had decide a while back that they were going to move to an IP phone setup to tie in the global support groups for all the products and all the regions for a more singular point of contact for the customer. While this is all fine and good, it became apparent a few months ago that there wasn't a good implementation plan in place for this to occur. This was boldly evidenced by the fact that we in the Irvine office now have TWO work phones on our desks. My IP just arrived today as it had to be ordered for me, which should help explain the proverbial slap to the brain.

It really didn't hit me until I was "installing" the Avaya IP phone next to my digital Siemens phone, which all now reside next to my dual monitor setup on the same desk as my Linux and Solaris machines as well. All my co-workers had the same setup, but I never really thought much about it other than how dumb it was. Now I SEE how dumb it is. Especially when today, we found out that all support calls were now being routed to the IP phones without anyone knowing the switch-over was going to take place, nor how to really USE the phones.

You really have to see it to believe it. I think I'll take some pictures tomorrow to -show- you how truly amusing my setup is now.

Mind you, I am still very happy with my choice to return. I am once again being challenged to excel and have a team that's got my back when I need it. It feels like returning home after a long vacation away. It is comfortable and familiar, but at the same time I am still pushed to succeed and solve complex issues for customers who understand the language of computers.

I am sure many of you have noticed a change in my demeanor since returning to this job. I am once again enjoying and finding satisfaction in my work.

And that, my friends, is worth its weight in gold.
