Last night I noticed my temporary crown coming loose. So, like a good little patient, I called in to have it re-cemented. They made room for me first thing this morning and had me in the chair with 5 minutes of arriving at the office. That’s when it all went wrong.
First, they said they had to make a new temp crown because the one I had wasn’t going to hold. So they go searching for the original impression, but can’t find it. Fine. I ask why they can’t simply re-cement it and get me on my way, and they feed me a line about the crown that I only barely understood to be: it won’t stay. Fine.
So they proceed to begin taking another impression to make a new temp crown. The assistant puts my old crown back and follows it with the impression goo. When she removes it after it has “set”, the assistant asks me where my crown is. I look at her with indignation and say, “well it must be stuck in the impression”. She says it isn’t and asks me if I swallowed it. Okay, I can understand that, even if it was a bit accusatory in tone. I look at her and indicate that no, I didn’t swallow it, and that if I had she would have known by the fact that I would have been on the floor choking with goo dripping from my mouth. She looks around a bit more and proceeds to ask me 10 more times if I swallowed it, going as far as checking in my mouth another 4 times between her and another assistant to see if it was there.
This is about the time I became a bit more belligerent and indignant. I was incensed that they would continue to accuse me of swallowing my own crown, and subsequently be stupid enough to not realize it or lie about it. Asshats, the lot of them.
Now I am just PISSED. I wasted a good 2 and a half hours on their mistake and have a new half-assed temp crown that seems to have a bit of a sharp edge on the inside. Luckily I get my permanent crown on June 7th. That will be the last time I go back to this dentist. Which is a shame because I like the dentist, but her assistants have a piss-poor bedside manner and are quite a bit more rough with their work.
